Lake Meredith

May 20, 2019 //  by haleysparger

While going to college at Texas Tech University (Weck’em Tech!), I was delighted to see in my national park passport that there were a couple of stamp opportunities only 2 hours north from where I lived. (Note: If you’re not from Texas, 2 hours may seem like a long time, but if you are from Texas, 2 hours practically feels like it’s next door. )

After searching the web for photos, I come across a bad image of a big lake surrounded by mostly flat ground. I remember thinking “Hmmm… not sure about this one”, so I kind of just forgot about it.

Like, we already had two beautiful canyons (Cap-rock and Palo Duro) that were not only closer but also guaranteed a good way to spend your weekend. Why chance a let-down.

It wasn’t until a year later that Mike and I decided “why the hell not” and made a spontaneous Sunday out of visiting Lake Meredith and Alibated Flint Queries.

We were definitely not disappointed!

Actually, I think this was the trip that put my unquestionable faith into the national park passport. This trip just went way beyond my expectations.
